Are you a homeowner or tenant?

Have you received landlord permission to have a dog?
*
You can keep pets if it's not specifically forbidden in your tenancy agreement, and it doesn't cause a nuisance to
neighbours. You should read the contract you signed most recently. (source: Pets and service animals in rented
homes - Citizens Advice)
Yes
No
Do you give permission to GAL to contact your landlord regarding their permission?
*
If you are a private tenant, you should normally seek the landlord’s permission because, even if you have a legal right to keep pets, the landlord may be able to find some other reason for evicting you if they do not approve. Keeping unauthorised pets could also lead the landlord to more closely scrutinise any damage at the end of the tenancy (for example, to carpets or furniture) to then withhold some of your tenancy deposit. Is your home accessed by stairs? If so, please provide a short description, e.g. staircase to our upper flat.
*
Do you have a garden or outside area such as a courtyard?
*
Yes
No
Is your garden or outside area totally secure?
*
We would class this as an outside area which is fully fenced with fences which are at least 6 feet high all the way
around the area. Please keep in mind that some dogs can easily jump over fences, hedges or other boundaries,
and should be kept on lead in an unsecure area.

Do you have any people in your household, or regular visitors, who have any mobility issues?
*
Many of our retired racers are large dogs which have never lived in a home and haven't learned manners such as not jumping up to greet people or trying to steal food. This can be dangerous and quite daunting if you're unsteady on your feet. However, this does not mean you cannot foster; we do also get older dogs, and dogs who have been pets previously, and we also need fosterers to help these dogs while we find them a forever home.

Do you or anyone in your household, or regular visitors to your home have any known allergies to animals?
*
Greyhounds are not hypoallergenic. However, due to their short coat they are sometimes considered to be less
of a problem for allergy sufferers compared to some other breeds. Regular grooming can help minimise the
amount of hair and dander in your home, which may alleviate the problem somewhat. Lurchers, however, are
mixed breed dogs, and we usually don't have many details of their ancestry.

Please provide further details about the severity of any allergies and any plans to mitigate the effects of their allergies.
*
Allergies can cause symptoms ranging from mild discomfort to, in serious cases, anaphylaxis. Many people who
suffer from allergies do live quite happily with animals, however you should consider the implications having a
dog live in your home and potentially expose family, friends or regular visitors to allergens.

Have you ever returned or handed in a pet to a rescue centre or charity?

Sadly, sometimes things don't work out, and we understand that there are many reasons someone might need to surrender their pet. Most people don't take this decision lightly - if you're honest with us and let us know what happened that led to this situation, we are able do our best to ensure that you're not put in a similar situation with one of our foster dogs.

Do you have any preference for a greyhound or a lurcher?
*
Most of the dogs GAL rehomes are greyhounds or lurchers. A lurcher is generally a sighthound-type cross breed. Lurchers come in all shapes and sizes, from very small whippet-type crosses to large deerhound-type crosses.
